Recent Experience1 – Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP:2 Chicago, February 1996 to December 2006: Partner 1996; Director 2002
Partner: Practice of Law3 – which evolved to include practice as a partner in the prestigious global law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP (Mayer Brown) in banking, finance, capital markets, structured finance, securities and corporate matters representing the largest and most sophisticated investment and commercial banks, rating agencies and other structured finance industry participants.
Director: Delivered substantially greater value from Mayer Brown’s ever-increasing investment in technology – During the integration of practice areas, industry groups, departments and offices following the precedent setting cross-Atlantic merger of Mayer Brown & Platt and Rowe and Maw, achieved the following results:
· created an efficient, effective, motivated and happier team of professionals,
· substantially improved product and performance,
· tripled productivity (with less than 14% increase in personnel),
· two-thirds of the team achieved career advances,
· created collaborative, trusting relationships with lawyers and non-lawyers throughout Mayer Brown’s diverse professionals and cultures,
· delivered more effective, consistently applied strategy, which resulted in extraordinary performance improvement with a minimum of doubling and as much as 22 times the prior performance of others before the creation of our team,
· received unsolicited, extraordinary accolades from third parties, partners and clients (including statements from independent thirds parties like “Having seen a lot of the firm’s marketing efforts, the web site stuff far outclasses anything else they do” which is telling given that our team was independent of marketing), and
· increased Mayer Brown’s market share by 8%, revenue by $72,000,000 and profits by $29,500,000.
Pro Bono – Achieved the impossible for children living in poverty. As the first recipient of Mayer Brown’s annual pro bono award given in recognition of outstanding pro bono achievements, this distinguished honor was earned in connection with representation of the Milton Hershey School Alumni Association in its quest to return the Milton Hershey School Trust4 to its Deed of Trust mandated child saving, children’s home mission. This pro bono representation resulted in
(i) the defeat of a cy pres petition designed to (a) add a new, competing purpose to the Trust and (b) make a gift to a third party of over 1,000 acres of land, as well as
(ii) fundamental reform through (a) reconstitution of the Trust’s Board of Managers and (b) a change in the President of the Milton Hershey School to a highly regarded, qualified graduate of the School, who was a member of our reform team.
During each of 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, worked an average of between 1,800 and 2,000 hours per year on this pro bono matter, which when added to the time worked on other law practice and partner responsibilities totaled more than 4,000 hours per year in each of these four years.
Environmental – Founding Member of NetGain Technologies, LLC The business of NetGain Technologies, LLC includes hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicle design. It developed a patent pending electric assist system to enhance fuel economy of, and reduce pollutants from, internal combustion engine vehicles. In late January 2007, NetGain performed dynamometer tests on its electric assist system. These dynamometer test results for its electric assist system (installed on a delivery truck) validate efficiency gain (and commensurate pollution reductions) upwards to 30% with a 10% dynamometer imposed load factor.
